Kelly Miller Community Center
Clarksburg, WV
KMCC requested designs for a Commercial kitchen, pantry room, refrigeration room, and cafeteria on the first floor of their building.
The mission of the community center in completing this project is to address food poverty within their community. Their goal is to provide tools, resources, and education on nutrition, healthy eating, as well as provide a safe space for people of the community.
They provided a basic layout idea. They also had most of the equipment they need for the kitchen, so existing dimensions for those need to be taken into account. While those were their only requested spaces, they said any other help designing the community center was welcome, hopefully two additional spaces.

"Security"
Design Concept
Security not only relates to food security, but it connects to functionality. Security can mean that the space makes the community feel safe and welcome, that the kitchen is safe to use, that spaces are accessible to everybody, that the space feels comfortable. The comfort of space can be considered a luxury.
